Question
hi there,
i have a new pom puppy--2.2 lbs, 18 weeks old.
she is cream/white and has very unsightly stains under her eyes.  i clean them 2x a day with warm water but it is not helping.
is there anything i can do to help the tear stains go away and prevent new ones?
thanks for your help!

Answer
Tear staining is VERY common in dogs and is most noticable in the lighter colored ones.  Some is genetic and some may be envirnmental.  I have some white dogs that tear way more than others and some of her offspring do and some don't.  There are eye drops you can buy that will flush out the eyes and keep debris from collecting which is what is making the eyes tear; they are cleaning out the eye.  You may never get rid of it completely-it is just part of owning a light colored dog.  There are also tear free eye wipes you can get from the pet store or out of pet supply catalogs-you will find several links to catalogs on my links page.

Best of luck!
