Question
QUESTION: Our 3 yr old male chi seems to breath fast and tends to snort a lot (kind of like a human who breaths in hard to clear their nose). We were told by the Vet that his sinus's are swollen due to allergies but that it is not affecting his quality of life.  I would like to know what I can give him to alleviate the problem.  I feel bad that he has to breath so hard and fast due to a restricted sinus passage.

Hi Elaine - Well, did the vet say you can give some Benadryl for the swelling?  The regular dosage is 1-2 mg per pound.
Example - a 10 pound dog could have 10-20 mg of Benadryl every 8 hrs.

Also, we have had great luck with the NuVET Plus product with allergies.... SEE Here
http://www.nuvet.com/81098
They sell a Wafer or Powder / Many little dogs do better on the powder mixed into some WET canned food...
JUST 1/2 - 1 full teaspoon per day -

NuVET is all Natural and safe...they give a 60 day money back guarantee...

I hope the Benadryl and the NuVET Plus will help!

Good Luck

QUESTION: Hi,  The Vet did mention using Benadryl but, I don't want to give him that every day. I was hoping for something more natural.  He is doing about the same and appears to be worse in the mornings.  The main thing that stands out is that he is a white Chi and his one eye is always red/pink around it constantly and it waters.  The other eye is black fur around the eye so it is not as noticable.

Answer
Canine allergies?   How is your little one?
Did you need more help?  I can suggest some herbs to try.

Well, you can give the Benadryl just when the eye is very red and itching?  Also, the NuVET will help - it works great on reduction of environmental allergies.

Sure sounds like spring and summer allergies.

Good Luck
