Length of tail

Question
We are purchasing our second boston terrier. Our first (male) has virtually no tail at all. The new puppy (female) and her siblings in the litter have a bit of a tail. Is it true that the length of the tail has something to due with the quality of the breeding and hence the quality of the dog. In shopping around and speaking with different breeders, one of them indicated that the tail should be like my males (virtually no tail at all). This breeder indicated that having a tail is indicative of poor breeding.  What is your view on this?

Answer
Michael,

Absolutely not!!! In fact, many Bostons have won their ribbons with tails in tow. Most Bostons do in fact have tails...little nubby things that look like they have been bend around a bit. There is something to be said about the length however. The tails should not be longer than your thumb. This in no way reflects on the breed, breeder or quality of the dog and breeding. Of course you will hear variables from different breeders who are promoting their dogs, regarding this. If in doubt you can always check the American Kennel Club standards for boston show qualifications regarding tails. But, tail or no...you will love your new puppy.
