-----Question-----
My boston has been battling an ongoing ear irritation at the tops of her ears that doesn't want to clear.  Any ideas what this could be?  We were told allergies.  Thanks

Hi Pam,

I need to know a bit more. For example...are the ears inflammed or dry and scaley? Does she scratch them? Is there any hair loss? Is she indoors or outdoors?
Please get back to me?

Hi Pam

Sounds to me like she has a bit of psoriasis. You can rub her ears with the over the counter shampoo...T-Gel. Once or twice a day, see if that helps. Otherwise, check her diet. You may have to put her on lamb and rice. Psoriasis can come as an allergic reaction to some ingredients found in the foods, or from an allergic reaction to something outdoors. She must be scratching when you don't notice for them to be scabbing over. If the t-gel or change in food doesn't help, or it gets worse, you should see her vet. Keep a check on her inner ears to make sure they are not affected too. If so...then for sure...take her to a vet.
Luck to you...Lisa

Answer
Hi Pam....

Though I am not a vet, personaly, I would rule out scabies, because they would not be limited to just the ear tips. Generaly, anything like scabies, or ear mites, start at the inner ear and as it worsens, covers the outer ear flaps. At any rate, the T-Gel I mentioned, due to the tar content, would be good to use for that as well because of the tar-smothering effect or any mites. I would't use in inner ear though.
