Question
We just got a new female bichon fries. And we were wondering 2 things. How old does she need to be to be bred? And Also, How do we find someone who has a male bichon that is ready to be bred.

Answer
First since your asking me these questions you didnot get you dog from a reputable breeder.  A reputable breeder would of make you sign a Spay / Neuter agreement.  The bichon is loaded with genetic problems.  The biggest ones can be tested and you need 3 generations clear to be certain of not having the genetic conditions.  The bichons is the #1 breed for Juvinile cataracts.  All reputable breeder have at least 3 generation CERF clear dogs for cataracts.  Also reputable breeder certify the dogs clear of Him dyplasia, and patella laxaton.  The certifications for this is called OFA.  These are genetic problems that can be stopped.  I am sure you don't want to bring any more dogs into this work that will have to endure these problems.  If we are not part of the solution we are part of the problem.   My suggestion is to spay you pet and enjoy her.  Leave the breeding to dedicated breeders who are trying to improve the breed by only breeding the best to the best.
