Question
Hi Kazza i wonder if you can give us any advice.
We have a 4 1/2 month bichon female, last month she went off her food and developed a dry hacking cough,we took her to the vet who immediately diadnosed kennel cough, gave antibiotics for 2 wks,a few visits later and now she is on another 2 wks course of antibiotics even though when the vet sounded her her chest seemed totally clear.
She hasnt lost any weight although the vet said that she expected her to be a bit heavier she is only 2.8 kg.
She had a bit of sickness and the runns and the vet told us to feed her chicken and rice until she passes solid stools which she is now.
To cut a long story short although she appears fine she is hardly eating anything at all. We have been used to feeding her hills science natures best which before the illness she scoffed every meal, now she is eating if you are lucky 15g THE WHOLE DAY. Is this enough for a growing puppy and should we worry? She is drinking water, dosnt get any dairy, human food (apart from chicken and rice when not well)
Does in sound if she is being fussy?
can you help us?

Thankyou

Answer
This is what I would do if she ws mine

give her ecinachea daily to build her immunity to KC for the future, the vet really should have advised this anyway.

Encourage eating with foods high in vitamin B, if necessary give her vit b daily for two weeks. Start her on the folowing

Breakfast :
sardines in oil
ground oatmeal
(mix them)
fresh goats milk

Dinner
raw chicken wing (frst she may just play with it perservere until she eats it)
fresh carrot batons, peas, spinach
mashed potatoes with creamed cheese
a little lambs liver. kidney etc (rotate foods )
goats milk

Tea ( before 6pm)
Rice pudding or semolina
apple sliced
cucmber sliced

This is always a good starting point, try to ensourage these type of foods, stay away from dry foods
