Question
I baught my l6 week old male basset 10 days ago we have been feeding him solid puppy food as instructed by kennels. All his motions are rather runny and sometimes with a drop of blood , we are getting worried, he is very playful and full of energy apart from this.    Many thanks.Carol

Answer
Hi Carol,

Runny and/or bloody stools (especially in combination) are often indicative of colitis.  It's usually caused by a reaction to an ingredient in the food...corn, wheat, soy...normally a filler of some sort.  He should def. be on solid puppy food but you may want to try something of a better quality.

Chicken Soup for the Soul Dog Food, Solid Gold, Canidae, Wellness...see what's available in your area and within your budget.

It's also possible that he has worms or other internal parasites so should be seen by a vet to rule out these types of things before you chalk it up to a food intolerance.  :)
