overdose of peroxide

Question
I gave half bottle of hydrogen peroxide to my dog (1-1/2 year old, 55 lbs) following the recommendation of a vet assistant (my dog ate about one cup of highly concentrated baking chocolate). Now she is vomiting blood. May this be lethal?

Answer
Peroxide is to be dosed as 1 teaspoon for every 10 pounds of body weight.  The dosage is given every 15-20 minutes until vomiting begins.  After that, no more peroxide.

5 one ounce squares of baking chocolate is toxic to your dog.  It should be removed from the body (via vomiting) ASAP and then absorbed with charcoal.  Because your dog ate this much baking chocolate your vet should have had you come to the clinic.

If it has been less than 6 hours since this all occurred, get her to the vet...NOW.  If it has been longer, you need to phone the vet and explain, very clearly, what happened, how much chocolate she ate and how much peroxide you've given her.  Vomiting blood is not normal by any means and is a sign your dog may be in serious distress.
