Question
Hello!
We are currently fostering a 4-month old Aussie who has cataracts in both eyes. She does well walking around & playing, but obviously has some challenges. I am wondering what the possibilities are around treatment/surgery, as well as at what approximate age this could happen. I am curious about ballpark costs so that we can consider our options & plan financially. She did have an assessment upon rescue intake & I realize that she would need further examination to determine her exact treatment, but I would appreciate any guidance in the meantime.

Answer
I'm not an expert in that area, but here's where you can find canine ophthalmologists who can give you some guidance: http://www.vmdb.org/clinic.html
If you are fostering for a rescue group, there may be some charitable organizations that can assist with the expense.  There's a general listing here: http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/what_you_can_do_if_you_are_having_trouble_affo...
