Biting & barking

Question
Our pup is an Australian mix - a stray that we rescued.  She is very affectionate 7-month old, just spayed (full of energy which I understand is one of their traits), but loves to jump up and puts everything in her mouth including hands, whatever.  She doesn't actually bite, but her sharp adult teeth break the skin.  We live in the suburbs & have a large dog lot.  Any way to break her of these bad habits?

Answer
Hi Marian, Actually your question is an easy one to answer! There is a simple way to stop biting without physically harming the dog.Purchase a spray bottle with an adjustable nozzle. Fill it half with water...half with vinegar. Adjust the nozzle to a fan type spray. Try to entice the dog to bite....as you hold the bottle behind your back. Just as the dog begins to bite...squirt her directly in the face. This will not hurt the dog...but she will hate it...and will back off. Be consistent!!! In a few days she will most likely give up the idea.We have used this method for years....it really works, although the dog may smell like a salad for awhile. Best, Wendy
