QuestionQUESTION: My Akita is appx 5yrs old. I adopted her two weeks ago from her previous Owners who could no longer keep her. In there home she useto have a male Akita playmate but in mine she is on her own. I would like to get her a playmate by introducing her to other dogs. When we go for walks she ignores the other dogs for the most part and I was recently told by a Breeder that it is not wise to have Akitas around other dogs. I do not want her to be anti-social, so please advise as to how to introduce her to other dogs. Maybe even take her to a dog park. The Vet I took her to says that each dog is an individual so I should take a chance and introduce her to other dogs. My question is how to do it and avoid a catastrophe.
ANSWER: Well, in nature akitas are anti social dogs but since this dog had a play mate then it shouldnt be that hard to introduce a dog into her life. And the way to go about do that is well you are going to have to slowly work a dog into her life repetativly until she gets used to it and then you shouldnt have a problem after they get used to each other and like each other. AnswerWell, depending on where you live an ad would work really well. I really cant think of anything else because the easiest thing to do would be a dog park like you said. And since your new then once you start meeting people you might find get to know some people with dogs. I hope this helps
