Cat is suddenly not house trained!

Question
Hi,

The only thing i can think of is that we were away last weekend and we have run out of liners in his litter tray. Getting some more of these tomorrow so that should clear that one up.

I am guessing that us being away last weekend has upset him more than we thought - he wasn't totally on his own though. My partners father came in to fed him and we always leve the radio on for some noise in the house while we are at work.

Have i just answered my own question?

Hi,

we got our cat from battersea about 4 months ago - he is nearly 6 years old and is the perfect little boy. He is neutured and fully house trained except in the last couple of weeks.

He has a litter tray that he uses inside during the day and he goes outside in the evenings. Because we do not have a cat flap he is kept in during the day but goes out at evening and weekends. We have got into the habit with him that when we put his collar on he is going out and when it is off he knows he is in.

Three times now we have come home to find cat mess upstairs in the bedroom - twice on the carpet and once on the bed.

He doesn't seem to be ill - eating an drinking as normal so i am totally at a loss about what to do.

Can you help?

Thanks

Jenny

Hello Jenny!  :o)

I know how you feel...we went through a similiar situation with our boy, Hobbes.

What we found was he was being picky about the way the litterbox was being set up, but being that you have an older cat (Hobbes was under a year at the time), that might not be the case.

A couple of questions so I can better help you figure this out:

- Has anyhing AT ALL change in the house recently (different people, different or even moved furniture)?

- Sometimes it can be an indicator of a bladder infection.  There's something called OdorLocker Health Alert Blood Detection Granules that you can put in his litter that will indicate if there is any blood in his urine.

- What kind of mess is he making?  Is it just urine, or also feces?

There is certainly something that has prompted this behaviour that he's not happy about, especially because he did it on your bed.  When a kitty "goes" on the bed, they're trying to communicate something to you.

So, answer my questions, and I'll be able to better help you figure out what's going on with your baby.

Until then, hugs to you both!  :o)

Answer
Lol...you might very well have possibly just answered your own question.  :o)

I would say buy more liners, and wait about a week or two.  If he continues doing it, write me again (don't worry...write all you want, I don't mind a bit) and let me know, and we'll take things from there.  :o)

Hugs to you both!  :o)
