what do I do with this cat?

Question
I have a kitty that I got from an animal shelter in florida 4 years ago.  She is a feral kitty and very hard to domesticate.  I have grown attached to this kitty and have seen that she can be quite affectionate so I was elated when she got the nerve to get up on the couch with me.  Well, a few days ago she pooped on the couch 3 times.  I put her outside but it's 2 degrees out so I let her back in.  I tried removing the couch cushions but she still left me a "present" the next day.  I change her litter box every 2-3 days.  What can I do?

Answer
Linny,

It sounds like it could be more of a medical problem than a behavioral one. She may have something wrong with her digestive tract, or she may have worms. If you can afford it and can put her in a carrier, I would take her to the vet, explain what she is doing and have her checked.

Her litterbox may be out in the open and some cats like privacy. You can try moving it, getting a larger one, and put deeper litter in it.

It could also be an emotional reaction to something that is upsetting her that you are not even aware of. Is she spayed? Are there stray cats outside that she can see and can't get to. Has someone new moved in or has someone moved out? Sometimes you need to be a detective to figure out what could be wrong.
