Kitten defecating and Urinating on Bed

Hi Karen,

I just got two 9 week old kitten brothers two weeks ago. And they were already
litter trained and going happily in their litter box. But about a week ago, one
kitten (Jackson) pooped on my bed. I changed his litter box and when I saw him
actually using the box, I tried to give him a little treat. I also fed him
treats on my bed because I read that cats don't like to defecate where they eat.
Everything seemed to be fine but a couple of days later, Jackson peed on my
roommates bed. The day after he peed on her bed again and immediately after went
to the litter box and pooped. I know he knows where the litter box is and that
he's been using it. Do you know why he's been defecating and urinating on our
beds?

Hi Crystal,

I would take him to a vet to get checked out for a urinary tract infection. The pooping may be just a "oops, got to go" kitten moment. But the urinating may be the start of something else. Also try changing the type of litter in the box. It may be bothering him. When you take the one to the vet, take the other. Not to be checked but to prevent another problem that pops up once in a while. Sometimes cats come home with strange odors on them that will cause the other not to recognize him. The one at home will then attack the one who went to the vet. Good luck and let me know what happens.
