Question
Hi. I have 2 female 7 year old cats. They are both prone to cystitis. Both are quite nervy. One is prone to urinating in inappropriate places. I have two litter trays which are cleaned regularly. I have feliway sprays/diffusers.  Have moved 5 weeks ago. No spraying til this week along with a bout of cystitis which is being treated. Am worried I'm going to have to rehome one of them if the spraying starts up again. Any advice? :o(

Answer
Hi

There are two possible issues here. the first one is about the cystitis. When our cat suffered from it on a regular basis she would urinate all over the house, not because she wanted to but because she couldn't get to the litter tray in time. So maybe this is happening with your cat.
The other issue could be that your cats are still finding their feet regarding their new home. And are still feeling insecure about the change. It may be a good Idea to go through the litter training process again with them to help reassure them and to re-introduce them to the litter trays. I 'm sure you already know that your litter trays should not be near each other as the scent from one can make the other cat feel like that this is not their territory and will feel intimidated and will not use the the tray.
Please see my pages re litter tray training and urinary problems below, it may provide some more information to help you through this transitional time. :)
