Question
my puppy has bad diahrea and vomiting and is sleeping alot but she has already had her parvo and distemper vaccine and i was wondering what could possibly be going wrong

Answer
Hello Jeremy -

This could be so many things . . .  first it could be a reaction the PARVO and distemper vaccination if she has been given the shot recently.

Next, if there has been a drastic change in weather such as severe heat, your puppies body is adapting to the change much at times like human body will.

And she could simply have a mild stomach cold or virus.

Keep an eye on the symptoms, if they persist for another day or so, take her to the vet for a check up just to be sure it is not anything serious.

Be sure to keep a lot of fresh water available to your puppy especially since she may be dehydrated. The warmer the weather the more she will need to drink, try to spray her down with the outdoor hose too, most dogs love it and it helps to cool them down underneath all their hair. Even a puppy can get overheated so don't rule this out.

In the meantime, try to add a supplement of Garlic powder to her food. Garlic is an anti-microbial and will help fight and kill infection should it be present in her body. Don't be afraid to sprinkle it one with a heavy hand, dogs love Garlic and she should eat it up right away. The only draw back to adding Garlic to the food is flatulence. It may be a little stinky but the Garlic is doing its job by pushing the bacteria through the system. This is safe and effective for daily long term use. Garlic is also an excellent flea preventive. Fleas, ticks and other insects cannot tolerate the oil that is released by the body during digestion and will not bother your pet.

You may also want to try to give her some plain unflavored yogurt. Yogurt contains live cultures of good bacteria called Probiotics or Acidophilus. When these good bacteria levels are high, bacteria and infection in the system are warded off and the body can heal at a faster rate. If your pet will not eat yogurt, you can purchase the capsules at most pet store or give her the "human" brand, all work the same way. This is also safe and effective for daily and even better for long term use. Your pet will have less of a chanceof getting sick while taking an Acidophilus supplement. This can also be administed with Garlic and any conventional medication, there will be no interaction.

I hope this informaion has helped you and your pet.
