Bully allergy

Question
My bully eats a LID from Natural Balance. She was getting chicken and sweet potato. My vet suggested changing to Duck and potato so we gradually started the change over. Within a couple of days she was breaking out in bumps all over and itching and she stopped eating the food with the duck in it. We have since gone back to the chicken and sweet potato and she is now eating well but the bumps that she has are bleeding when she scratches and her face is raw as well as it appears she now has a yeast infection in one ear. We have been giving her 50mg of benadryl per the vet but she is not getting any better. Our 6m old male bully also started breaking out but he is getting better since we switched back. Could they possibly be allergic to the duck and should I take her into the vet for a steroid shot? I am so sad for her because she is just becoming miserable and so sad to look at.

Answer
I would definitely NOT do steroids. They create the illusion of wellness, but when they wear off, the problem generally comes back even worse than before. I would look in your area for a competent, experienced holistic vet or practitioner who uses homeopathy &/or Chinese medicine and contact him/her. If no one is in your area, I have an outstanding vet who uses homeopathy and who does phone consultation all over the continent. His name is Dr Gerald Wessner and his phone number is 352-245-0245. Leave a message on his answering machine if no one answers.

If the issue started with the switch to duck, you probably should switch. Also avoid, wheat, corn, soy, dairy and beef. Be sure to read ALL labels...biscuits,supplements,other treats, etc. as well as removing any and all toxins like Comfortis, Advanitx and other internal and external parasite control products (even if vet recommended). I would also curtail annual vaccinations as they are unnecessary and harmful. (Do the research.)

As far as food, if you can get a grain-free food such as Pure Vita, I'd suggest you try it. Also, there are several good frozen raw foods available which I'd recommend using for at least 50% of their food intake. If raw not available, use a quality enzyme, pre-biotic and pro-biotic supplement such as "iFlora". This will help with allergic reactions as well as strengthening digestion and immunity.
